Sometimes an upgrade doesn’t need to mean changing everything. For plenty of forestry contractors and woodland owners, the tractor is already one of the hardest-working and most versatile machines in the business. The question is what you can put behind it.
Capable forestry setup
That’s where today’s tractor processors have moved things on considerably. A HYPRO processor can turn an existing tractor into a highly capable forestry setup.
For predominantly thinning work, the HYPRO 300 keeps things compact. At approximately 800kg and requiring a minimum tractor output of 50 hp, it delivers mechanical delimbing, processing and winching in a relatively straightforward package.
But not every contractor’s work stays within one timber size.
That is where something such as the HYPRO 450XL becomes interesting. Its working range extends to 45cm, but its strength isn’t simply the larger number. The machine has two feed ranges.
High speed gives more than 5 metres per second when working through smaller timber. Drop into the lower-speed setting and the machine provides more starting torque when the timber becomes heavier.
That means one setup can comfortably sit across a much broader mix of work.
The double-articulated design also allows processed timber to fall outside the tractor wheel tracks and makes it possible to begin sorting assortments during processing rather than moving everything again afterwards. That’s the kind of improvement that matters after eight hours in the woods. Less unnecessary handling, a better flow through the job and a setup that gives you more options when the next enquiry comes in.
For some businesses the right answer will still be a compact thinning processor.
For another contractor it might be the ability to take on heavier timber without completely changing how the business operates.
